Fire equipment maintenance (FEM) is a commercial operation conducted by the Country Fire Authority and the Hamilton Fire Brigade. The core business is the sales, servicing and inspection of fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and fire hoses in public and private enterprise. Where the opportunity exists – extinguishers, hoses and blankets can be sold to the public as well. The servicing of these items, including depressurising and recharging, is done on a fee for service basis.

By law, commercial premises are required to have their fire equipment inspected every six months.
